This page is dedicated to my best friend and partner in business Lee.
It is our hope that we can help others that are beginning a partnership, in a present business relationship, or thinking about starting a business with a person or persons. Partnership in any business can be fragile. If the partners become friends then I feel you have to work twice as hard to making a business work for the benefit of all parties involved.
When my art won the National Award in the Art Show that Lee managed, I had the opportunity to meet and work with her. We instantly seemed to communicate and we found our goals were similar. Even though we had not had a discussion as to forming a partnership, I think we knew the business venture was going to be form between us with out a word being spoken. But it is important to sit down and draw up an agreement. This way friendship can continue and your business venture has a good sound platform.

Lee and I made many mistakes; but, because we were able to communicate and put forth an effort to understand other's needs therefore,we were able to resolved issues pleasantly. It was clear from the beginning that I was the professional artist and she was the professional promoter. This made a perfect team. Sharing and exchanging ideas are imperative for successful working partner ships. You have to realize that each have creative ideas that need to be heard. Work on a solution that will work for the advancement of your business and your friendship will remain true. Above all, be honest with each other, understand that each may have great and lousy ideas, accept each other's criticism as well as praise. Only then will you be able to progress in all areas.

A contract is an excellent idea and imperative.
Also, look for organizations that are available to work with small businesses. Call your Chamber of Commerce, private and national organizations, Small Business Administration, SCORE, to name just a few.
Success depends on mutual goals, good planning, and belief in each other.

It is imperative to give your students the best.
Lee and I made sure this happened.
We exhibited my work in several states, taught seminars, worked with state and national organizations like Ducks Unlimited, and entered and won many local, state and national competitions. It takes total dedication to maintain the position of a well known Professional Artist. Lee made sure this was accomplished.

School of Art
Lee and I had a dream.
We wanted our own gallery and art school. It took a tremendous amount of work, but we did it.We offered decorative and fine art courses with me as the main instructor and Lee as the director. Our school was complete by inviting professional art instructors to teach. The school was not a retail shop. Soft music was in the background, coffee, or the student's favorite beverage was prepared. Our location was out in the country where the students could experience quite and peaceful surroundings for right brain creativity.
We wanted to share a part of our professional life in the hope that if any artist has a dream; we hope you will follow that dream. It takes a lot of hard work, but it is well worth it.
