Welcome, I am artist, 'Darce Jean'.
During my twenty-nine years as a Professional Artist, I have studied and worked with many mediums, surfaces, and techniques. This has allowed me freedom to express my emotions and interpretations through my realistic paintings. My paintings and limited edition prints have won national, state and local recognition. As an Art Instructor for over twenty years, I have taught nationally, filmed three instructional videos, and published several instructional manuals. With carefully selected hues and favorite mediums applied with skilled techniques,I express my thoughts, feelings, and messages on selected surfaces. As an Instructor one of my greatest rewards is watching a new student find their place in the art world. When they begin to feel confident with the mechanics of painting, they relax and creative compositions began to flow. This is vital for an artist! Everybody needs the support of family and friends when we are beginning any endeavor. I have had the dear and wonderful support of my family throughout my career. My mother (also named Darce) and my brother (Cecil) owned a business in our home town. They opened a Art Studio and Supply shop which was the foundation of starting my career as an Art Teacher. I know I would not have taken the first step on my own. Being a professional artist often means team work. You can learn to paint beautiful items and pictures, but if do not have a way of promoting your work, they may never be seen. I was very fortunate to have the support of Mama and Cecil. As my career advanced and I began to expand on my own, balancing business with painting begin to be impossible. I met a lady, Lee Bowers, when "Silent Moment" (a water color painting won the grand purchase award in the Arkansas Wildlife Federation National Competition). Lee was very active in Wildlife Art Exhibitions and promoting Artist. We contracted a partnership in 1986 with her promoting my work and managing the business side of our new partnership.Darce Jean & Lee |

The major focus during my career as a Professional Artist was Wildlife and Portraits, but I loved to paint a variety of subjects. My paintings are either acrylics, watercolor or mixed. Often I would finish my work with glazes of pastels. It is imperative for an Artist that chooses to render wildlife, to thoroughly study the subject that is going to be painted; especially if one choose to enter the paintings in competition. For example, my studies included duck hunting in "The Scatters" and flooded rice fields at the Duck Hunting Capitol of the World, Stuttgart, Arkansas. There is nothing more beautiful being in flood timbers at daybreak and watching the ducks glide in through the timbers. |

My prints are limited editions with 500 or less. Many of my prints were sponsored by major banks and wildlife organizations. |

PORTRAITS |

Portraits are very difficult to paint. A Portrait Artist must strive to capture the likeness of person as well as their personality. The painting should feel as if you could get to know the person just by studying their portrait. |

DECORATIVE ARTS |

|
I would not be a Professional Artist today if were not for Decorative Arts. I started paining in 1976 with a Decorative Arts Painting Class. I still enjoy the versatility I have with the many surfaces that Decorative Artist choose to paint on. This art form is ageless with Artist in the early centuries painting on furniture, rugs, and murals on some of the most famous buildings in the world. |

DIGITAL ART |

|
Painting with digital art software is the newest art form for me and very exciting. I paint with Paint Shop Pro and Corel Painter for the most part. It wasn't long before I added the Wacom Tablet as my painting tool. I found that I can create paintings digitally as if I am painting on a surface on my art desk. The Portrait Digital Images that are in the Digital Gallery are composites from photos. |
